My Camry is for sale Richmond BC.

2004 Toyota Camry SE V6 for sale: $20,000 obo.

I am selling it because of an incident after the car was serviced. After picking up and drove for about a block, my wife watched a rear wheel flew off in front of her while the hub dropped onto the ground and skidded along.

What was causing the wheel to fly off? After service on the brakes, the lug nuts used to secure one of the wheels were either not properly tightened or the tightening was simply forgotten. The service manager admitted it was their fault.
(*** not that I think it matters in this particular case but I was using 3rd party not Toyota wheels for the snow tires - another lesson learn).

How is the car now? They say there is no structural damage to the car.

And as for my wife: She's okay but quite emotional about the whole thing. She refuses to drive the car again, not wanting to go back to the Toyota shop. The thought of herself in a bad accident if the wheels lasted another 5 minutes driving in the freeway is causing a lot of anxiety. Hopefully we find a buyer or else she would have no choice but to drive the car again.

What do I think? I think we deserve a decent compensation; we bought the car and never missed a maintenance from the same dealership, now we have no intention of keeping it because of what had happened. I can no longer claim that my car is accident free, and how it affects the selling value is yet to be seen.

Friday Nov 19, 6 days later the offer is on the table:

- they will waive the bill for the service visit (about $500 worth of regular maintenance + some brake works)

- $1,000 cash

What about trading in the car to them? The sales department guy gave me a quote of $10,800 which I don't think reflects the true value. A 2005 Camry SE V6 with a lot higher km at Regency Toyota asking price is $19500.

Do I think the compensation is fair? No, and they heard it. I was then given free advice on how to proceed with legal actions if I choose to.
